Leading edge technology, experienced clinicians, patient and family- centred care.
The Imagination Centre at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is home to the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) program. The BCI program is changing lives and improving participation for people of all ages.
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology is one way the Imagination Centre is changing lives. Our team is made up of families, clinicians, engineers, researchers, and leaders all working towards the same goal of adding quality to life.

What are Brain-Computer Interfaces?
Brain-Computer Interfaces are rapidly advancing technology that allow people to control devices using only their minds. A special headset picks up brain signals and sends them to a computer, which can then control devices such as video games, robots, remote-controlled cars, smart home technology, and even power wheelchairs.
Liam's Story
Liam was born with cerebral palsy, which impacts his movement and communication. Using BCI at the Imagination Centre lets Liam play and interact with his family and friends.
The Imagination Centre at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is creating opportunities for Liam to play, create and have fun, in ways that were never thought possible

"We need to enable the ability of children to play, learn, create and be heard. To offer this opportunity early in life, when it has the most profound effect, could be life-changing."

Powered by Imagination
Olivia has been using BCI technology to express her creative side. The clinicians at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital connected a BCI headset to a Sphero robotic ball and then added paint. The result? Olivia can create unique pieces of art, using only her mind.
BCI is life-changing technology for people with movement and communication challenges. The Imagination Centre at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is one of very few places in North America where it is being used.
